July 4, 2017 | Jabil Inc.Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Jabil Inc. has announced the grand opening of its Silver Creek mechanical integration facility, which enables Jabil to offer customers specialized expertise and resources for complex metal fabrication, welding, assembly and integration services.
"The semiconductor revolution that began here in Silicon Valley may have altered the global economy, but its new products and technologies still rely on metalcraft design and assembly for it to thrive," said Craig Trotter, vice president of Jabil's Capital Equipment Sector. "The launch of Silver Creek coincides with Jabil's 30-year anniversary as a major manufacturing resource for customers in Silicon Valley. Together with our nearby Great Oaks and Blue Sky facilities, Silver Creek marks a significant expansion of our mission to support end-to-end development of the digital era’s next-generation of products."
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, was onsite for the grand opening ceremony, where he presented Jabil with an award for its 30th Anniversary as one of the city's major employers.
"I want to thank Jabil for their continued investment in San Jose, where they have helped drive economic growth in Silicon Valley for three decades, and to congratulate them on their leadership in the electronic manufacturing services (EMS) industry," Liccardo said. "We are grateful for the nearly 1,000 jobs Jabil provides and we look forward to supporting the company’s continued success in our city."
Jabil's new Silver Creek facility houses over 110,500 square feet of multiple-class clean rooms for high-purity assembly and welding operations, as well as manufacturing space for sheet metal fabrication, pipe bending, orbital welding, frame assembly and system integration. As part of Jabil's ecosystem of integrated design, manufacturing and assembly solutions, Silver Creek also supports product conceptualization and development, tooling and automation design and project management for new product introduction.
"The breadth and depth of the metal manufacturing expertise here at Silver Creek offers unique competitive value to Jabil's capital equipment customers in America's digital heartland," Trotter added. "And it is emblematic of Jabil's larger commitment to drive disruptive innovation."

American Made Advocacy: Going Beyond the CHIPS Act to Power American Manufacturing
03/26/2024 | Travis Kelly -- Column: American Made AdvocacyWhere have all the factories gone? A tour of America’s former bustling manufacturing communities is a stark reminder that, for the past three decades, we let the microelectronics manufacturing ecosystem disappear overseas, primarily to Asia. For decades, foreign competitors seeking to control critical markets played a long game. Government investment and subsidies were effective in undercutting U.S. and European companies. As other countries created this unfair competitive advantage in manufacturing, the know-how also migrated in their direction. This resulted in the serious workforce challenges the semiconductor and printed circuit board industries face today.
