Mycronic Gets EDGE Certification for Workplace Gender Equality
December 16, 2015 | Mycronic ABEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Mycronic AB is one of the first companies in Sweden to reach certification according to the EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality) global standard for workplace gender equality. Last month Mycronic was also awarded the Allbright Prize in recognition of its focused efforts in the diversity area.
The EDGE assessment methodology is the leading certification for gender equality in the workplace that is universally applicable across industries and countries. Five different areas are assessed; equal pay for equivalent work, recruitment and promotion, leadership development training and mentoring, flexible working and company culture.
"We are proud to receive the certification as it confirms that our focus and ongoing work regarding diversity is taking us in the right direction," says Silke Ernst, Sr VP Human Resources at Mycronic. "We know that diversity is an important issue for our employees and we often find that potential employees, especially young students, take diversity into account when deciding what companies they perceive as attractive to work for."
The EDGE assessment takes several aspects into consideration. One of them is a survey that was sent out to all employees regarding their perception and experience of gender equality at Mycronic. About 76 percent of the employees in Sweden answered the survey, which shows that there is great interest in this topic and its respective questions.
The EDGE certification forms part of Mycronic's diversity efforts and its methodology has provided a clear picture of where the company stands today and the opportunity to benchmark against companies in other countries. Mycronic will now adapt strategies in order to further increase diversity throughout the Group. The EDGE certification also supports Mycronic’s long-term strategy within Employer Branding.
"We are very pleased to announce the successful EDGE Certification of Mycronic AB," said Maria Oldin, Managing Director of EDGE. "Mycronic is leading by example within their geography and industry, and the company's leadership is truly 'walking the talk' and investing to drive workplace gender equality further. Their strategic commitment to EDGE and to its respective process confirms Mycronic's dedication to provide optimal advancement opportunities for men and women alike, with the added bonus of attracting and retaining top talent to the organization."
"The recent Allbright Prize is a recognition of our efforts in driving the company towards a more meritocratic business. We received a lot of positive feed-back for our clear diversity and equality targets as well as for the frequent follow-up. The result of the EDGE assessment will help us to become even better in the future," concludes Ernst.

The Need for a Holistic Global Sustainability Standard
04/10/2024 | Michael Ford, Aegis SoftwareNo one can deny that the resources of our fragile planet are finite. The environment seems like a third party, subject to constant degradation. We’re acutely aware of the effects of pollution on our climate, and despite our “throw-away” culture, recycling and recovery of materials has remained relatively expensive, even as we use more energy just to survive.
