AI implies that such improvements can be fulfilled quicker with machines that continuously learn to solve new problems. However, the main challenge is complete end-to end optimisation. Harnessing the power of its own AI solution, Koh Young has developed Koh Young Process Optimizer (KPO) solution.

KPO is the Koh Young smart factory solution driven by AI to control and optimize the printing and mounting operations. KPO heavily relies on accurate 3D measurements data and error detection from SPI and AOI machines, which sets the stage for smart factory solutions. The KPO printing solution includes three interlinking modules that exercise complex algorithms to develop closed-loop print process recommendations. The enhanced AI engine actively optimizes the printing process by combining real-time printing and SPI measurement data.

Companies have been collecting data in large volumes. Highly varied data from manufacturing operations comes in quickly that needs to be validated, and its value prioritized so that it can be turned into something useful—transformed from big data to smart data. The amount of data available has grown exponentially into big data. Twenty years ago, a PCB work order resulted in 100 data records, megabytes of data; today, it is 10 billion records, terabytes of data. The investment in collecting this data and storing it is high. However, without a way to analyze the data, without analytics, it will not result in ROI.

Smart Is Not A Binary Concept

“Smart” is not simply an “on” or “off” state. Just like people, some solutions are “smarter” than others; as we see from the various ways of measuring intelligence within humans, there are many kinds of “smarts.” When looking to invest in a smart manufacturing strategy, the playing field is more complex than it may appear. We should first understand and define what “smart” means, to what extent it exists, and the other requirements and dependencies that are needed to get the best value from investment.
