The three California SMTA Chapters (San Diego, Los Angeles/Orange County, and Silicon Valley) are proud to present “SMTA California Technology Day.”

This live virtual event will feature three non-commercial technical presentations covering:

  1. X-ray: "The X-factor: How X-ray Inspection Improves the Manufacturing Process" (Dr. Bill Cardoso of Creative Electron)
  2. Failure Analysis: "Understanding Where Contamination Comes From and the Effect On Reliability" (Eric Camden of Foresite)
  3. Stencil Printing: "Stencil Printing of 008004 (imperial)/0201 (metric) Aperture Components" (Edward Nauss of ITW/EAE/MPM)

In addition to the three technical presentations, there will also be messages from all three California SMTA chapter officers and a message from the new SMTA President (Dr. Martin Anselm) on the new initiatives from SMTA. During the entire event, you will be able to chat in real time with the speakers, SMTA chapter officers, and the SMTA Board of Directors as well as with each other.

The SMTA California Technology Day will take place on Tuesday, December 8 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (PST).

Participation in this event only requires a browser. Absolutely no downloaded software is required.

This event is open to all. The event is free to SMTA members and non-members. More information and registration is available at smta.org.

Real Time with… SMTAI 2020: Technical Conference Review

10/06/2020 | Real Time with...SMTAI
SMTAI 2020, which was converted to a virtual event, took place from September 28–30. Over 90 technical presentations are available, but this report covers just some of the sessions I attended.

Real Stories of Applied Advanced Analytics in the Electronics Manufacturing Smart Factory

08/26/2020 | Derek Ong, BscEE, Keysight Technologies
The smart factory is starting to become a reality, as part of the overarching Industry 4.0 paradigm. With the technology enablers, such as industrial IoT (IIoT) and cloud computing, electronics manufacturing operational technology (OT) are on a converging course with traditional information technology (IT). Beyond the challenges of data acquisition and transformation, the true “proof in the pudding” is in the quick ROI from advanced analytics. We will share examples of successful, profitable implementation of applied machine learning (ML) in the electronics manufacturing line, where measurement science meets data science.
