New Methods for Supply Chain Management in an Eco-friendly Era
May 25, 2010 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
— TFI and DCA collaborated for a design-for-environment roadmap service; Assent announced a SVHC declaration tool for managing REACH compliance; and SYSPRO added an inventory optimization module to its management suite.
Design-for-Environment Process Integration Roadmap
This new service, Design-for-Environment Process Integration Roadmap (DPIR), is designed to help companies proactively address current and emerging global environmental requirements while minimizing implementation costs. DPIR aligns product roadmaps with current and emerging environmental requirements from global regulators, corporate customers, consumers, standards organizations, and non-government organizations around the world. Many manufacturers struggle to comply with the ever-changing landscape of environmental regulations. Each regulation is often addressed as a single event and rudimentary systems are put in place to comply with new requirements. The DPIR service projects the trajectory of these regulations over a 5-year period allowing the development of internal processes that anticipate future requirements, enabling them to be managed in a proactive manner. DCA develops this trajectory of environmental requirements through its involvement with clients, in standards committees, discussions with regulators, academics, NGOs, and regulations-development processes. The program is used to rapidly assess clients’ existing preparedness for current and future requirements, then consolidate and match the relevant requirements to clients’ product roadmaps. It is difficult for mid-sized and smaller companies to staff the number of product stewards needed to continually track global requirements and align their product roadmaps accordingly. DPIR combines TFI’s Lean and Green leverage with corporate executives and DCA’s hands-on technical expertise and Rapid Review Methodology to quickly benchmark companies’ operations, highlight strengths, and develop a custom roadmap for an integrated design for environment (DFE) program. REACH Software
The Assent SVHC Declaration tool enables clients to collect & verify supply chain compliance information and pass this information on to customer-facing staff and enforcement officials. This tool includes supply chain notification of upcoming regulatory changes; automatic gathering of new declarations when the SVHC List changes; declaration storage; fully customizable reporting and metrics; time-stamped traceability; and full integration with existing PLM software. Inventory Management
The Inventory Optimization module integrates with all aspects of the SYSPRO management suite. The SYSPRO Inventory Optimizer extends optimization across the SYSPRO base with three integrated modules. Forecasting from the item-/warehouse-level to grouping and family aggregates with user-defined calendars and horizons. Seasonally adjusted forecasts employ a variety of algorithms, including a tournament method. Users can remove outliers and anomalies, edit history, and override forecasts based on their market intelligence, and produce charts and graphs.Groupings and Families aggregate items by sales turnover, profits, unit movement, and other user-selectable attributes. Inventory Optimization sets inventory parameters using Groupings and Families, sets safety stock levels, models inventory, projects future inventory, tracks inventory performance, provides lead-time tracking, and generates supplier scorecards. All three modules employ the features, data, and logic of the SYSPRO transaction system. In some cases, non-intrusive enhancements complement the final product. Inventory Optimization allows companies to effectively fulfill demand while minimizing their inventory expenses. Immediate benefits include better factory utilization and raw material planning, reduced inventory, improved service, reduced freight costs, and better forecasts. SYSPRO, www.syspro.com
