ST. PAUL, MN 3M named Joaquin Delgado, Ph.D., to the position of executive vice president in charge of its Electro and Communications Business. Delgado also becomes a member of 3M's Operations Committee.
Delgado began his tenure at 3M in 1987. Most recently, he served as VP and GM of the Electronics Markets Materials Division.
In his new post, Delgado assumes responsibility for 3M's Communications Markets, Electrical Markets, Electronic Solutions, and Electronics Markets Materials divisions, and for 3M Touch Systems Inc. He is based in Austin, Texas.
Among the key products for emerging applications are the lightweight, high-capacity electricity conductor, 3M ACCR, which enables utilities to boost the capacity of power transmission lines without building new towers; 3M Novec Fluids with low global warming potentials, zero ozone depletion potential, and a high margin of safety in their intended use; and lithium ion battery materials for electric vehicles and renewable energy applications.
Delgado obtained undergraduate and master's degrees at University of the Basque Country in San Sebastian, Spain, and earned a Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He joined 3M as a senior polymer chemist in the company's Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Technologies Center. Advancing steadily during the 1990s, Delgado had attained the position of technical director of the Industrial Tape and Specialties and the Packaging Systems divisions by 2001. His latest positions have included executive director of research and development, Corporate Technology and Industrial Business; managing director, 3M Korea; and vice president, R&D and New Business Ventures, Consumer and Office Products.
