Latest Reports: Mobile Handsets, European Electronics, and Tech Financials
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Electronics.ca Publications released the European Electronic Market Forecast; iSuppli examines the outsourcing trend in mobile handsets, while ABI Research tracks 2009 cell phone shipments from major OEMs; and Reuters reports on Apple, Google, IBM, Intel, and Microsoft beating expectations in the financial markets.
Reuters journalist Gabriel Madway summarized the tech sector's earnings reports by stating that "the sector is proving adept at cost cuts and more resilient to the economic meltdown than previously thought." Madway cites continued consumer interest in certain electronics, swift cost-cutting measures, outsourcing, and other factors in the tech market's positive news. Madway also quotes Enderle Group analyst Rob Enderle as saying that tech might lead us out of the recessionary market. The Morgan Stanley Hi-Tech index of major tech stocks is up more than 30% since early March, with many firms beating or in line with market forecasts. Read Madway's full analysis, covering electronics OEMs to chipmakers to IT services, in Cost Cuts Help Tech Giants Ride Out Weak Economy.
Since 1996, European Electronic Markets Forecast (EEMF) has tracked developments in the European electronics industry. From the Internet boom, and subsequent collapse, to the migration of volume manufacturing and now the latest market downturn, EEMF has provided a comprehensive and objective analysis of developments in the European electronics industry. Updated monthly, EEMF tracks the key issues and opportunities impacting this geographic sector of the electronics industry, with company developments, market analysis, and originally researched articles with in-depth overviews across key sectors of the electronics industry. iSuppli's latest report, "Rules Change in Mobile Handset Outsourcing Business," incorporating analysis and information from iSuppli white paper, "Fatal Pitfalls in Wireless Handset Outsourcing," concludes that vertical integration for contract electronics manufacturers is not sustainable without a positive, vibrant end market. For the statistics and guidance, read The Mobile Handset Outsourcing Report. ABI Research also focused on mobile handsets, noting that cell phone consumption amidst economic negativity in Q'01 2009 remained relatively buoyant. Handset vendors shipped 258 million handsets by the end of the quarter. Although that represents an 11% year-over-year decline, the result significantly exceeded the previous forecast of 253.5 million, ABI reports.
