Following are the new solder-dispensing print heads, jet dispensers, dispense valves, curing technologies, materials mixers, and various materials such as conductive inks and epoxy adhesive/sealants.

Upgraded Print HeadProFlow enclosed print head system capabilities and process window were updated in the ProFlow Evolution. Benefits include efficient materials transfer, high throughput rates, higher process yields, lower material consumption, and improved process control. Because the material is contained in a sealed environment, as opposed to being exposed to air as in traditional squeegee applications, enclosed head printing provides environmental and cost-saving benefits of lower material waste. The Evolution can be used for traditional solder paste printing, flux deposition, adhesives and encapsulant printing, solder spheres, thermal interface materials, biomedical formulations, and more. ProFlow Tx suits alternative process applications including the deposition of enzymes, ink, under-fill and glue, while ProFlow ATx is designed for advanced paste materials. The Evolution products also can mix and condition materials and deliver uniform performance control. By independently creating a body of conditioned material at the stencil interface, the performance of processes such as pin-in-paste are reportedly improved. Other alterations include the use of industry-standard materials syringe packaging, a modified chamber design to simplify cleaning, and direct material loading capability. DEK,

60654-essem.jpgEssemtec's CDS6200 with jet dispense.

System with Two Jet DispensersThe jet-dispensing technology on the CDS6200 allows proportioning of various media at a large number of points. Because the materials to be dispensed have various specific characteristics, which partially depend on environmental conditions, selecting valves that are suitable for particular materials are necessary. The machine concept consists of a CDS6200 with two various Jet valves fixed at its head. Additionally, this system contains a custom vacuum table, which can be adjusted manually +10 mm and can be triggered independently via software. The vacuum table fixes the carrier for the component; it is removable from the table by hand and can be added when needed. Particularly at the placement of LEDs as well as at further applications where similar components in large scale must be placed at the carrier for the components, the double-dispenser provides a significant times savings. Using the two Jet valves media, two different adhesives can be deposited simultaneously, reducing processing time per component. A third Jet dispenser, which can be installed at the same head, can further cut processing time. The proportioning systems of the CDS-series are flexible platforms, which can be adjusted modularly for numerous applications. They have a standard selection of valves and functions. Essemtec,

60654-tridak.jpgTridak's 775 dispense valve.

Dispensing Valve The 775 dispensing valve handles tacky materials and eliminates problems that are inherent with stringy and low-viscosity materials. The valve offers an adjustable and lockable suck-back control, as well as adjustable and lockable flow control. The suck-back feature of the 775 spool dispensing valve reportedly increases accuracy and repeatability when dispensing materials. The 775 valve can dispense volumes as little as 0.01 ml. It is recommended for use with different low- to high-viscosity materials including adhesives, solvents, oils, grease, sealants, plastisols, oils, RTVs, pastes, gels, and acids. It also can be modified for custom requirements. Tridak LLC, a DYMAX Company,

Dispensing ValveModel 455 dispensing valve is a pneumatically operated, two-way pinch valve. It features micrometer control over the flow rate, ensuring that materials are dispensed repeatably and accurately. The Model 455 valve has a patented over-stroke adjustment, positive shut-off, and disposable inert wetted parts, enabling users to obtain millions of cycles from a single piece of tubing. This valve can be used as a dispense valve or as an in-line, two way (on/off) valve with adjustable flow. Teflon tubing is the recommended standard for this valve, but it can be quickly converted to use other tubing materials such as silicone, urethane, polyethylene, or vinyl. The Model 455 dispensing valve was designed to be integrated into automated assembly lines and can be fitted with a number of dispense tips and spray nozzles. This valve can dispense a low- to medium-viscosity materials including adhesives, UV resins, flux, gels, acids, sealants, cyanoacrylates, lubricants, paints, medical media, solvents, RTV, anaerobics, and alkalis. 60654-ink.jpg125-13 conductive ink.

Conductive Silver Ink A fine-line screen-printable electrically conductive silver ink, 125-13 has a sheet resistivity of 15 milliohm per square/mil and is suited for many printed electronic applications where fine line definition is a key performance property. 125-13 adheres to various substrates including polyester, polyimide, and glass. According to tests conducted by CMI, 125-13 can be to be printed at widths and spaces of 34 mils (75100 µm). 125-13 is designed for such applications as radio frequency identification devices (RFID), flexible circuits, polymer thick film circuitry and membrane switches For most applications good results are achieved when cured for several minutes at 105° to 120°C. It is resistant to flexing and creasing and offers hydrolytic stability. Creative Materials Inc,

60654-dymax.jpgThe BlueWave cure lamp from DYMAX.

Spot LampThe BlueWave 75 high-power spot lamp provides low operating cost with high-intensity output to accommodate various bonding applications. The lamp transmits less energy onto the substrates resulting in cooler cures for heat-sensitive applications. This RoHS-compliant UV curing spot lamp is CE marked. The BlueWave 75 includes an adjustment feature to enable user control of light intensity for process validation and control. Intensity measurement is accomplished with the DYMAX ACCU-CAL 50 radiometer, which takes measurements through the lightguide in the actual production setting. The BlueWave 75 spot lamp emits UVA and blue visible light (300450 nm) and is designed for curing of UV and visible light-curable adhesives, coatings, and encapsulants. It contains an integral shutter that can be actuated by a foot pedal or PLC for manual and automated processes. An auto-ranging power supply provides consistent performance at any input voltage (90-264V, 47-63 Hz). Typical bulb life is over 2,000 hours. DYMAX Corp.,

Epoxy ImpregnantA new adhesive/sealant, impregnant, and liner, EP19HT, offers easy handling and reportedly high performance in adhesive/sealant applications for electronics. EP19HT is a storage-stable, one-component, low-viscosity system that cures at elevated temperatures to a tough, strong, and chemically resistant thermoset plastic. Its viscosity is 500600 cps at 75°F. Recommended cure is 1 hour at 250°F. Shorter cures can be achieved at 325°350°F. EP19HT is a 100% reactive system, containing no solvents or diluents. It has a service operating temperature range of -60° to +400°F. Shrinkage upon cure is minimal. Master Bond EP19HT has excellent electrical insulation properties. Manual Syringe DispensingThe Micro-Dot dispenser combines a syringe-type fluid container with a precise, infinitely variable and repetitive hand-held manual dispenser. The Micro-Dot functions as a complete dispensing system for a variety of materials. This dispenser combines a syringe-like fluid reservoir with a plunger-less piston which seals the fluid being dispensed. The plunger extends in precise increments each time the actuating lever is depressed. Setting output volumes is done via control knob. The Micro-Dot can dispense in volumes from micro to milliliters. The Micro-Dot dispenser incorporates a safety mechanism to prevent accidental actuation. To ensure that the syringe is always in place, Tridak has incorporated a safety interlock feature. The safety interlock leaves the Micro-Dot's plunger free until the syringe is completely rotated into position and secured in the dispenser's body. Tridak,
