Agilent Focuses on Test, Sheds AOI/AXI Inspection Units
February 9, 2009 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
SANTA CLARA, CA Agilent Technologies Inc. will exit the automated optical (AOI) and automated X-ray inspection (AXI) systems business, effective in March 2009. Company representatives cited a longer-term business strategy to focus on electronic test, referring to electronics test as a core competency for Agilent.
Agilent will expand its leading in-circuit test (ICT) 3070 lines and functional test system platforms through new technologies and innovations, the company reports. There currently are no plans for the intellectual property (IP) and associated AOI and AXI systems technologies, added Jack Rozwat, Americas sales & support GM, Systems & Solution Team, Electronic Measurements Group, Agilent, noting that the changes were still in early stages and further developments would follow. For example, Agilent is considering providing software upgrades for installed systems via industry partnerships.
Customers affected by the decision to discontinue AOI and AXI systems from the Agilent portfolio will receive continued support, including the availability of support parts, time and material services, and self-support options until end of the products' support life. The company states that customers using its electronics inspection systems will have effective support to continue using their AOI and AXI machines.
