Nextreme Creates Thermal Management Business Unit
October 2, 2008 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
DURHAM, N.C. Nextreme Thermal Solutions opened a thermal and power management products business unit to serve the electronics industry. The company appointed Jim Mundell as senior VP and GM of the unit. Nextreme will focus more aggressively on thermal management products for telecommunications and photonics markets with the business, which targets integration of thin-film thermoelectric OptoCooler products into optoelectronic devices.
The thermal and power management products act as solid-state heat pumps and add thermal management functionality directly into the package to maintain in-spec device temperature.
Mundell will be responsible for all aspects of the company's thermal management products business unit. He brings more than 30 years of experience in managing and growing high tech businesses in small and large companies. He most recently served as Nextreme's chief operating officer (COO) and was responsible for transitioning Nextreme's technology from research to product.
Prior to joining Nextreme, he held executive positions at General Electric, Harris Corporation, SCI Systems, and CTS Corporation, covering the semiconductor, microelectronic, and electronic manufacturing services businesses.
The thermal and power management business unit will initially target telecom and photonics due to size, efficiency, and power-pumping specifications of its thermoelectric product line. Nextreme also will explore possibilities for microscale thermal management in other markets including computing, mobile, and consumer product applications, stated Mundell.
