Lumex launched SMT LEDs with thru-hole features and capabilities; FDK expanded its Sensei isolated DC/DC converters with eighth brick converters; Mill-Max added mini USB receptacles; Virtual Industries released a small-parts tip to handle components as small as 100 µm; AVX Corporation developed a series of secure lock ZIF connectors; Pickering Interfaces added to its range of PXI switch solutions with the SPST power relay module; Crystek Corporation released a 500-MHz VCSO.
Lumex announced a line of surface mount devices with the features and capabilities of thru-hole, leaded T 5-mm epoxy lens LEDs. The OctoLEDs devices suit transitions from thru-hole to SMT in assembly designs, without sacrificing the light emission features of epoxy lenses. Brightness levels reach up to 7,000 mcd dependent on color, driven by the common If of 20 mA. Applications include front panel, PCB multi-LED and industrial control or fault indicators, circuit fault and large-scale multicolor light bars, large display edge illumination, dot matrix moving sign displays and other dot matrix arrays. The LEDs offer off-the-board height of 11 mm with a 6 × 6 mm footprint. They are available with a variety of lens finishes, angle will vary dependent upon lens type. The units can withstand soldering temperatures of up to 255°C for 10 seconds. Gradual temperature rise of 2°C per second reaching 150°C is recommended. OctoLEDs are RoHS-compliant. FDK Corporation added the FPER48T5R020 and the FPER48T01210 eighth brick converters to its Sensei series of isolated DC/DC converters. The FPER48T5R020 provides up to 20-A output current (100 W) at a regulated voltage of 5.0 V; the FPER48T01210 delivers up to 10-A output current (120 W) at a regulated voltage of 12.0 V. Targeted for intermediate bus architecture (IBA) and distributed power architecture (DPA) in telecommunications, WiMAX, data processing, computing, and storage applications, the converters offer strong thermal performance. The FPER48T5R020 and the FPER48T01210 operate from 36 to 75 Vdc input, and are offered in industry-standard eighth brick footprint and pin-out. They have a low body profile of 10.7 mm. Standard features include input under-voltage lockout (UVLO), output over-current protection (OCP), output over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), remote output voltage sense, and output voltage trim using industry-standard trim equations. The converters meet the basic insulation requirements of EN60950 and feature input to output DC isolation of 1500 Vdc. Full-rated output power and current, with little or no derating, occurs at high ambient temperatures without heatsinks. FDK now has a complete line-up of eighth bricks in the 100W class, providing 12V, 5V and 3.3V distribution rails. Sensei Series products are RoHS-compliant. For more information, visit www.fdk.com.
Mill-Max expanded its USB family to include two mini USB receptacles, which offer more options when smaller solutions are necessary. The USB receptacles suit surface mount applications. They are smaller and lighter than existing USB connectors for portable and handheld devices. They feature 5 pin (one ID pin,) and 0.8-mm pitch, and are compliant with USB 2.0 specifications. For more information, see www.mill-max.com.
AVX Corporation developed a series of secure lock zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors that provide enhanced robustness and dependability for applications that require high reliability. Designated the 6288 Series, the rugged connector series features a shaped cable construction for correct alignment. The 6288 Series connector's one-touch flip lock provides audible and tactile feedback. The moldings in the connector accept FFC/FPC cable and lock shapes to prevent accidental removal of the cable and incorrect insertions. The connectors suit automotive applications, audio/visual devices, and medical electronic applications. The 6288 series is available in 6 to 60 positions with a standard 0.5-mm pitch and gold-flash plating. Operating temperature ranges between -40&D#176 and +105°C. To learn more, visit www.avx.com.
Pickering Interfaces expanded its range of PXI switch solutions with the 40-330 SPST power relay module, supporting high-current and high-voltage switching applications. The 40-330 provides 24 off SPST switches, each capable of switching currents up to 4 A and hot switching voltages up to 250 VAC. The cold switch rating of 1000 V peak permits the 40-330 to be used for high voltage test applications where hot switching is not required. User connections are provided on a 50-way male high-voltage D Type connector. The 40-330 is supported by any PXI-compliant 3U chassis and can be supported by the Pickering Interfaces LXI modular chassis where an LXI control environment is required. The module is supplied with software support for all the most common programming environments. To learn more, visit www.pickeringtest.com.
Crystek Corporation released its Model CVS575S-500 500-MHz voltage controlled SAW oscillator (VCSO). SAW crystal technology provides low-noise and low-jitter performance with true sinewave output. The lead-free, RoHS-compliant CVS575S-500 is offered in a 5 × 7.5 ࡨ.5 mm SMD package. Phase noise is -135 dBc/Hz @10KHz offset. The oscillator has no sub-harmonic, and the second harmonic is typically -14dBc. The CVS575S-500 operates from -20° to +70°C from a +3.3V power supply. Applications include frequency translation, test & measurement, avionics, point-to-point radios, and multi-point radios. To learn more, see www.crystek.com.
Virtual Industries Inc. debuted the VSPT0803 small-parts tip, precision machined from a variety of materials. There are two ESD-safe materials: a static-dissipative plastic delrin and a conductive gold-plated brass. The non-ESD-safe materials include a high-temperature torlon plastic and a low-cost acetal plastic. The tips are provided on a straight or angled probe with a luer slip connector, and handle components as small as 100 µm. They work with a continuous flow of vacuum from either an in-house vacuum source or with one of the company's Tweezer-Vac systems for SMD parts as small as 0402, 0101 and 01005. The small parts tip line is sold as single units or optional kits. For more information, visit vacuumtweezer.com.
