Hereaus launched a line of fast-setting, one-component conductive adhesives for component attachment on flex circuits; CMK will manufacture build-up circuit boards in Thailand; and IPC released the June book-to-bill ratios for North American flex and rigid PCB production.
Designed for connection of passive components and bare dice on lead frames and PCB substrates, Heraeus PC3200 series conductive adhesives were introduced by the company's Contact Materials Division (CMD). Ideal uses include smart cards and flexible circuits found in camera phones and automotive or semiconductor applications. PC3200 adhesives require no premixing, no dry ice for shipping, and offer easier storage. The adhesives can be shipped with standard ice packs and stored in a standard freezer. They are also solvent-free and are formulated for stencil print, screen printing, or dispensing applications. The PC3200 series provides high electrical and thermal conductivity with excellent adhesion properties. The company's product development team can work with customers to develop modified formulas to meet individual processing criteria. For more information, visit www.heraeus.com.
The Nikkei Business Daily reports that CMK Corp. will begin Thai production of build-up circuit boards in Q'03 2008, in response to growing demand from manufacturers of flat-panel televisions and digital cameras. The build-up PCBs use pre-drilled holes to enable many components to be mounted on a small surface area. At present, CMK makes this product only at plants in Japan and China, Nikkei reports. It will invest 3.5 billion yen ($32.9 million U.S.) to install new equipment at the plant, which currently makes conventional PCBs, and build a dedicated production line for build-up circuit boards. The expansion will increase the Thai facility's total output capacity by around 10% to 50,000 sq.m./month.
IPC's monthly book-to-bill publication for North American PCB production shows that rigid PCB shipments outpaced orders, while flex circuits saw the opposite trend. Read the full report here: Rigid PCBs Down, Flex Up in June.
