WACKER SILICONES introduced UV-active silicones; Virtual Industries Inc. released the TV-1000 vacuum tweezer; Tyco Electronics launched the high-performance interconnect (HPI) connector with locking feature; and Creative Materials announced a series of single-component epoxy die-attach adhesives.
WACKER developed UV-active silicone elastomers with a significantly enhanced property profile. SEMICOSIL UV silicone grades cure at room temperature within a few minutes. The curing rate can be controlled by adjusting the UV dose as required. This enables manufacturers to encapsulate electronic components and PCBs faster and more economically, the company reports. The products suit automotive and power electronics as well as sensor technology. The silicone elastomers are one- and two-component systems based on polyorganosiloxanes, and offer long shelf life, fast processing, and no curing byproducts. SEMICOSIL UV cures without photoinitiators. These silicone encapsulants join the WACKER SILICONES heat- and RT-curing two-component silicone rubber grades for use in the microelectronics industry. SEMICOSIL is used for coating PCBs and hybrid components (conformal coating). For more information, visit www.wacker.com.
Virtual Industries Inc. introduced the TV-1000 vacuum tweezer, which handles a variety of parts from 2.54 mm to several inches in diameter. The long-life diaphragm vacuum pump generates up to 10" of mercury with an open-air flow of 2.3 lpm. The unit is ESD safe and grounded. Accessories include small-parts tips to handle items as small as 100 µm and pick-up heads with two or three pick-up points to handle elongated or larger parts. Systems are available in 110 or 220 V 50/60 Hz. For more information, see www.vacuumtweezer.com.
Tyco Electronics launched the high-performance interconnect (HPI) 2-mm connector system with locking feature. The HPI locking connector series offers a compact size and provides stable contact performance. The system is available in a single vertical row style and in different colors for color-coding. This disconnectable crimp-style connector series is available in 3 to 16 circuits and rated 3.0 A @ 100 V AC/DC and 1.0 A @ 250 V AC/DC. It accommodates wire sizes from 30 to 24 AWG (0.050.22 sq.mm.). Insulation outside diameter range is 0.9 to 1.5 mm. The connector is suited for a temperature range of -25° to +85°C. Top-entry connectors are polarized and have a positive locking feature with audible click/tactile feedback when mating to headers. This HPI locking connector series is designed for use in plasma display panels, LCD monitors, and other small electronics equipment. For more information, see www.tycoelectronics.com.
Creative Materials debuted a series of single-component, electrically conductive, B-stageable epoxy adhesives. The 118-06 series is available for a variety of application techniques, such as screen printing, pad printing, stencil application, and B-staged films. The die-attach adhesive offers thermal stability, good high-temperature performance, and an operating temperature range of -55° to +230°C. One application example is the assembly of electrical and electronic components to flexible and rigid circuitry. In addition these products can be applied directly to the backside of wafers prior to dicing. The 118-06(SP) adhesive is screen printable and has long screen life. The 118-06(PP) adhesive is pad-printable and allows for very thin (as low as 0.15 µm) and small-feature designs. The 118-06(ST) adhesive can be stencil-applied at very large thicknesses. 118-06(SD) is offered in various sizes of syringes for automated or manual dispensing. The 118-06 products are also available as adhesive films, pre-cast on release liner at dry thicknesses ranging from 10 to 125 µm. To learn more, see www.creativematerials.com.
