Following are new components, thermal interface materials, connectors, test systems, software products, and other launches from Agilent, Mill-Max, PROMATION, Aegis, HumiSeal, HALT&HASS Systems, and more.
Hall Effect IC SwitchesA complete line of hall effect ICs for portable electronics applications is available in a 1.1 × 1.1 × 0.5-mm chipscale BGA package. A slightly larger surface-mount package, measuring 1.6 × 1.6 × 0.6 mm, also is available. The packages also operate at average currents as low as 3.5 µA. Additional features include integrated compensation and push-pull CMOS logic output circuitry. Integrated dynamic offset cancellation yields high sensitivity for less precise placement of the permanent magnet. The integrated CMOS output eliminates the need for external pull-up resistors. In addition, the devices are rated at 8-kV ESD withstand. The product family includes unipolar switches, omnipolar switches, polarity discriminating switches, and bipolar switches. Real-time Factory MonitoringiMonitor 2.0 is a system for manufacturers to create their own real-time dashboards to monitor the enterprise, factory, and lines in real-time through Web browsers. iMonitor can create unlimited numbers of interactive and real-time production tracking, materials, utilization, and quality dashboards. Dashboards are constructed by dragging and dropping gauges, charts, and other active elements into a design view, similar to PowerPoint slide construction, along with user-provided graphics such as line pictures or plant drawings. The user activates elements by indicating the Aegis xLink data source for that machine, tester, station, or area of the process. Users link any gauge or chart in one dashboard to another, creating a dashboard site structure. iMonitor allows users to build slideshows of multiple dashboards that rotate at user-defined time intervals without user interaction. Dashboards can be secured to limit access. For massive deployments, Aegis invented an architectural technology to minimize server load as usage of dashboards increases in the enterprise. Facts and Data Book on Conformal CoatingThe new edition of the Conformal Coating Facts and Data Handbook is designed to be a portal of information regarding the technology and processes surrounding conformal coatings. At over 30 pages, the book is available as an interactive PDF document on chemistry types through application methods and a full and comprehensive glossary of terms. The company will also be publishing a hardcopy version of the document. Its objective is to present facts in a succinct style rather than attempting to take the reader into a long and detailed scientific explanation. The book covers differing types of conformal coating, the techniques for application, and some of the terms used in the sector. Laser-cut StencilThe Slic laser-cut stencil material reportedly outperformed the industry-standard stainless steel material. Slic has the mechanical and thermal properties of stainless steel, but is designed to enable superior paste release. It features improved paste roll activation, smoother walls, and better release. The stencils incorporate a base material with a denser grain structure. Slic stencils have repeatability of ±16 µm and are suitable for applications with surface area ratios of 0.55 and above. Featuring a positional accuracy of ±12.5 µm over 600 × 600 mm and an aperture dimensional tolerance of ±9 µm, standard material thicknesses available are 0.004, 0.005, 0.006, 0.007, 0.008, 0.009 and 0.010". Additional thicknesses are available upon request. FINE LINE STENCIL, a division of FCT Assembly, Colorado Springs, Colo., www.finelinestencil.com.
Epoxy PreformsNano-forms epoxy preforms are designed to provide precision seals on microelectronics. With preforms as small as 0.035" (0.89mm) outside diameter and 0.011" (0.28mm) inside diameter, Nano-forms allow highly repeatable placement of minute amounts of epoxy with precision that is unattainable with traditional dispensing methods. With dimensional tolerances as close as ± 0.0005" (0.013mm) for critical applications, Nano-forms can control epoxy volume to within 0.00002cc for a typical configuration. Exceptional repeatability is further promoted with closely controlled pre-mixed ratios of resin to catalyst. In addition, Nano-forms are not affected by pot life, so epoxy viscosity is consistent from beginning to end of production batch. This combination of precision and consistency makes Nano-forms ideals for sealing fiber-optics and subminiature switches, capacitors, diodes, LEDs, and other microminiaturized components. Like other Uni-forms epoxy preforms, Nano-forms are pre-shaped, one-part resins that are solid at room temperature. When heated, Nano-forms melt and cure, forming a consistent seal that protects components from dust, moisture, oil, flux, solvents, conformal coatings, and other contaminants. USB-based Electronic Testers The compact Agilent U2700A family includes oscilloscopes, function generator, source/measure unit, and switch matrix in a versatile form factor that enables space-saving solutions. The family of USB-based instruments is designed for flexible configurations, quick setup, and affordability in electronic functional test and troubleshooting applications. The hallmark of the U2700A family is its stand-alone/modular operation. Each device can be used as a stand-alone instrument, or mounted in a compatible chassis with other modules. In modular operations, the chassis enables synchronization of all slotted modules through master/slave triggering capabilities, even across modules with different functions (excluding the switch matrix). The bundled Agilent Modular Instruments Measurement Manager software provides user-friendly out-of-box configuration with a graphical interface and easily accessible functions, providing measurements without programming. Bundled IVI drivers allow users to program with Agilent VEE, C#, C++ and Microsoft Visual Basic, or LabVIEW. The Agilent U2700A USB modular instruments are available now in Europe and Asia Pacific; in Japan on July 1, 2008; and in the Americas on August 1, 2008. Solder Pallet MaterialThe HC300 composite material suits wave solder pallets and fixtures for PCB assembly. HC300 is constructed from a proprietary polyester resin with a reinforcement of isotropic glass filament. Slight compliancy from polyester increases toughness, an integral property variance that allows thin-wall cross-sections without fracture. This compliancy also causes the material to be less rigid than 100% epoxy composites. There reportedly is less filament residue irritation for finished product handling purposes. HC300 is capable of 6,000 to 12,000 passes through the wave solder process; material longevity is dependent on cleaning and allowing the tooling to cool between cycles. Additionally, industry feedback indicates HC300 is less reactive to fluxes that cause premature breakdown in other palleting/fixture materials. HC300 is said to demonstrate excellent dimensional stability. DMI International, North Plains, Ore., www.dmipallet.com.
XRF AnalyzersThe NITON XL3 800 Series provides the fastest alloy grade identification and laboratory-quality composition analysis of metal alloys ever performed with a handheld XRF analyzer. Typical time for routine positive grade identification is less than 2 seconds, which reportedly is as much as four times faster than previous generations of the instruments. This speed enhancement is designed to significantly increase sample throughput and user productivity. The NITON XL3t 900 Series adds light element capability, directly measuring magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur in metal alloys; previously, this was not possible with a handheld XRF analyzer, according to the company. Both the XL3t 800 and 900 offer immediate, nondestructive, laboratory-quality chemical analysis of aluminum, titanium, and nickel alloys, as well as superalloys, stainless steel, and other metals. Next-generation SWIR SensorsA short wave infrared (SWIR) focal plane sensor uses efficient thermoelectric cooling, based on thermal bump technology and InGaAs focal plane arrays. The solution is targeting power consumption and component weight reductions along with better performance. The target end-use for these SWIR sensors is night vision systems, where they can be networked. They are sensitive to the nightglow radiation at 1.6 µm wavelengths, enabling operation in total darkness. Eye-safe, this spectrum allows use of laser illuminators invisible to current night vision devices. Detector performance is usually limited by thermally generated noise, which can be reduced by cooling. By integrating thin-film thermoelectric coolers with focal plane arrays, the product can provide innovative night vision imaging solutions.
