FINE LINE, LPKF Partner for Laser-cut Stencils
June 3, 2008 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. FINE LINE STENCIL, a division of FCT Assembly, introduced a line of laser-cut stencils in partnership with LPKF. The laser-cut stencils accommodate designs with aperture pitches down to 0.4 mm.
Laser-cut stencils also are said to deliver improved aperture definition and superior dimensional tolerances for fine-pitch apertures. On a 600- × 600-mm area, the company is able to cut features with an aperture of ±9 µm and a positional tolerance of ±12.5 µm. FINE LINE has invested exclusively in LPKF lasers for this service, citing reliability, accuracy, and quality from the supplier's SMT stencil manufacturing lasers.
The beam on FINE LINE STENCIL'S laser deflection allows cutting of circular pads with a diameter of 30 to 800 µm. These can be produced with a roundness near to 100%. The systems also can cut any sharp contoured pad geometries with maximum precision. The LPKF MultiCut is designed to supply the best possible metal stencil cutting quality and performance, focusing on dense patterns, tight tolerances, and low surface area ratios. The MultiCut uses a laser technology that eliminates laser pulse elements below the cutting energy, resulting in a reduced heat affected zone (HAZ) and flat stencils, including thin and dense designs. The improved laser source also results in a smaller beam diameter, allowing minimum apertures of 40-µm diameter.
