Zetex Unveils Current Monitor
January 22, 2008 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. Zetex Semiconductors released the ZXCT1080 current monitor, boasting an extended common-mode-sensing voltage range of 3 to 60 V. The component reduces errors in translating actual measured current into input sense current required, as well as overall power consumption. An automotive AEC-Q100-qualified version also is in development.
The current monitor, in a SOT23-5 package, suits automotive, industrial motor control, and power supply applications, reducing footprint on the PCB and lowering production costs, according to the company. It uses one current-measuring external resistor, with a gain-setting resistor; fixed gain equals 10 V. The extended voltage range is designed to simplify high-side current sensing in high-voltage circuit-protection environments.
Ground-referred output voltage can be matched with A-D converters and microcontrollers; it can be protected against over-voltage conditions. The component has a low-quiescent current, typically at 80 µA. This reduces errors in translating actual measured current into input sense current required.
