EMS News Update
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
ASTEEL will acquire Flash Electronics, adding U.S.- and Asia-based manufacturing sites; Synchro Corporation added another SMT production line, and created a dedicated lead-free line to serve current and projected needs; and MEC, The Milwaukee Electronics Company, named Hani Malek as GM and national sales and marketing manager.
ASTEEL, based in Paris, will acquire all Flash Electronics stocks, and will maintain Flash's senior management in the deal. Based in Fremont, Calif., Flash operates four EMS facilities in Calif. and two in China. The company focuses on communications, industrial controls, audio/video, and storage customers. ASTEEL will own more than 1 million sq.ft. of manufacturing space through the deal, and anticipates annual revenue of more than $750 million. The company runs 12 existing facilities in France and Tunisia, and holds a subsidiary in Romania. It provides electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, mechanical design, sheet-metal and plastic-enclosure fabrication, final assembly, and logistics support. The ASTEEL/Flash group will be privately held and headquartered in France. Matthew Liu, chairman, and Chin Fan, president of Flash, will maintain an equity participation in the merged company. Gilles Benhamou is CEO of ASTEEL, directing the merger. ASTEEL/Flash hopes to attract new OEMs and expand its customer base with the acquisition, adding economies of scale, manufacturing space, and procurement leverage. Syncro Corporation added an SMT production line in its Arab, Ala., facility to deliver higher precision placement and better throughput. The added capacity allows for future growth, noted Ed Childress, president. The company dedicated one SMT line to RoHS-compliant production, citing rising customer demand for lead-free over the past year. For more information, visit www.syncroems.com.
