Outsourcing Advice for Medical OEMs
November 26, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
CRANSTON, R.I. EMS provider Federal Electronics released a white paper for medical OEMs looking to outsource to EMS providers. Author Ed Evangelista, VP of Federal Electronics, believes EMS providers versed in the regulatory environment of medical electronics can bring OEMs higher profits, more flexibility, and faster time-to-market.
The white paper, "Choosing the Right EMS Provider for Medical Products Outsourcing," includes tips on process capabilities on which to evaluate potential EMS partners, outsourcing strategies, compatibility with the EMS business, high-mix/low-volume demands, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and acquisition considerations. Evangelista warns that haphazard collaboration with unqualified or otherwise unsuitable EMS providers could raise costs, deflate product quality, and result in lost customers for a medical device OEM.
Outsourcing to an EMS partner should create a long-term, well-defined relationship, where the EMS company serves as an extension of the OEM's quality, consistency, and regulations conformance, Evangelista said. A good EMS partner can be a source of business, manufacturing, and operational efficiency, providing a competitive advantage, he added.
