Post-show Numbers: Productronica Expands International Draw
November 26, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MUNICH, Germany Despite transportation strikes and snow storms, attendance at the 2007 Productronica conference hovered around 40,000, with visitors and exhibitors hailing from outside Germany both on the rise.
Productronica representatives report that 45% of all visitors came from other countries, and 40% of exhibitors were internationally based this year. These figures are both up from the last Productronica event in 2005, where international participation hit 41% and 38%, respectively. A total of 1,484 exhibitors from 35 countries displayed technologies, equipment, and materials; and introduced new products at the show. Representatives noted international exhibitors such as ERSA, Fuji, Komax, Panasonic, Rohde & Schwarz, Rohwedder, Samsung, Siemens A&D, and Tyco Electronics, among others.
Pre-registration increased 15% this year compared to 2005. Attendee count reached a bit more than 40,000, down slightly from 43,113 in 2005.
The German Machinery and Plant Manufacturing Association VDMA and the German electrical engineering and electronics industry association ZVEI reported high interest and interaction at the tradeshow. VDMA reported German manufacturers of electronic production equipment forecast double-digit sales growth in 2008. ZVEI estimates the global market for electronic components will grow by 6% to more than $410 billion next year, lifting the sales prospects of production equipment manufacturers. Exhibitors and visitors expect the favorable business climate to continue. 85% of the exhibitors and 83% of visitors judge future development in a positive light.
Productronica surveys show that 95% of the visitors judged the completeness of the product range as good to excellent; 93% gave this assessment for the presence of market leaders; 90% for the internationalism of exhibitors. From the exhibitor view, 86% evaluated visitors as good to excellent, down 1% from 2005. "We noted an increase in professionals attending, with direct approaches and concrete inquiries," said Giampiero Pari, area sales manager, Marsilli & Co. S.p.A.
Executives on the "Productronica 2007 Executive Round Table" panel concluded that the industry would continue growth. China continues to be a leading producer and consumer hub. Market opportunities exceed the risks of becoming involved there, the panel felt. India plays a strongly subordinate role to China, with potential as a software development and electronics production site, as well as consumer market, in the near future. Eastern Europe has less market potential, according to the executives, but offers communications and geographic advantages to production equipment manufacturers.
