Sony Rolls Out AOI System
October 30, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
LAKE FOREST, Calif. Sony Manufacturing Systems America Inc. (SMSA) released the SI-V200 automatic optical inspection (AOI) system for high-speed, accurate, and flexible inspection post-print and pre- and post-reflow. The machine is capable of inspecting 01005s and boasts an increased field of view (FOV).
The SI-V200 detects inaccurate component mounting, reversed components, missing components, incorrect polarity, missing solder, bridging, and insufficient or excessive solder. It uses a 2-megapixel color CCD camera and high-intensity, three-stage, white-ring lighting system to increase FOV, inspect miniature and fine-pitch components, and reduce distortion. The standard 15.5-µm resolution on the CCD camera increases FOV by 54% over previous models, increasing inspection speed. High, 11.0-µm resolution picks up 01005s.
The lighting ring boosts clarity in color and black-and-white inspection, according to SMSA. It uses a telecentric lens to reduce distortion, reportedly increasing accuracy when inspecting densely populated boards.
The system's cast-iron frame and linear X-axis motor are said to increase stability and reduce noise during operation. SMSA implemented proprietary Magnascale technology for position control and feedback on the motor. For more on the SI-V200, visit www.sonysms.com.
