E&C Takes on Printed Circuit Materials
October 22, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
BILLERICA, Mass. Emerson & Cuming added polymer thick films, conductive inks, and coatings to its circuit assembly materials portfolio, taking over the product lines and future development from sister company Acheson Electronic Materials, both part of National Starch and Chemical Company's electronic materials division.
Emerson & Cuming will offer printed, sprayable, jettable, and dispensed materials for electronics assembly applications with the additional product lines. ELECTRODAG, LUMIDAG, and MINICO polymer thick film brands will transfer to Emerson & Cuming in Q'04 2007. Research and new product development will consolidate, with Acheson's relevant personnel relocating from its Port Huron, Mich., facility to Emerson & Cuming's in Billerica in 2008. Sales and applications staff also will join Emerson & Cuming from Acheson.
Combining printed materials with our complementary set of adhesives, coatings, encapsulants, and sealants for circuit assembly will enable market-driven solutions in less time, said Cindy Yanch, Acheson global business director. The product lines fit into Emerson & Cuming's end markets of medical, industrial, consumer, RFID, and automotive electronics. The company foresees rapid development in single-source solutions for RFID inks and adhesives, Yanch added.
The polymer thick films transferring to Emerson & Cuming suit screen, rotogravure, and flexographic printing for flex circuit, PCB, smart card, RFID antenna, label, biosensor, electrode, and touch screen production.
