iNEMI Opens Shanghai Office
October 19, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
HERNDON, Va. The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) opened a representative office in Pudong, Shanghai, China, naming Haley Fu, Ph.D., manager of operations in the region. The Shanghai office is iNEMI's first outside of North America; it was approved by the board of directors in 2006.
This is a logical step in our phased approach to globalizing iNEMI activities, said Nasser Grayeli, chairman of the iNEMI board and VP of technology for Intel Corporation. The effort began in updates to the association's roadmap in 2004, expanding in the 2007 edition. The group's members formed a China collaboration group that has been active for the past three years. The Shanghai office will provide regional support to further collaboration and to recruit participation from companies in the region.
Fu will coordinate iNEMI activities in the region, having experience in the electronics industry and environmentally preferred product development, surface mounting technology, lead-free soldering, and supply chain cost reduction. She most recently served as manager, process improvement, in the China R&D center of Schneider Electric Investment Co., Ltd. Fu received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The China team will work to define regional deployment projects and to identify ways in which the China collaboration group can become more involved with, and provide support for, existing iNEMI activities. It will also interact with other industry associations and consortia in the region.
iNEMI will host a ribbon-cutting event January 16, 2008, themed "Innovation for the Electronics Industry." Topics will include miniaturization, energy and the environment, and increasing the reliability of electronics. Dor details, see www.inemi.org.
