Panasonic Batteries Specified RoHS-compliant
October 12, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
ELGIN, Ill. Panasonic OEM Battery Group (Matsushita Battery Industrial MBI) reports that it has voluntarily committed to eliminate RoHS-prohibited substances (lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers) from its OEM batteries.
The company created RoHS-compliant lines of lithium, extended-temperature-range coin, nickel/metal-hydride, and alkaline and oxyride batteries for OEM customers. The products include its BR Series of poly-carbonmonofluoride lithium batteries; ML-R Series of reflow-solderable ML lithium batteries; BR A Series of coin cells; CR Series of manganese-dioxide lithium batteries; and VL, ML, NBL, MT, CGR and CGA, HHR and HHF, AM, LR, and ZR battery lines.
All Panasonic lithium coin and cylindrical cells included with welded tabs/terminals use lead-free solder tinning. The tab material is nickel-plated tin, while the lead-free solder tinning on tabs is a SAC formulation (Sn3.0/Ag0.5/Cu).
RoHS certification of these cells is part of Panasonic's corporate directive on environmental responsibility, despite the fact that batteries are exempt from RoHS legislation, said Michael Dvorak, product manager at Panasonic's OEM Battery Group.
