XJTAG Supplies Test for Railway-control PCBs

CAMBRIDGE, U.K. Westinghouse Rail Systems (Chippenham, Wiltshire, U.K.) selected XJTAG's suite of boundary scan test and development tools for its prototype automatic train control PCBs. The PCBs are high-value, safety-critical, and populated with BGAs and other complex devices.
Westinghouse will use the XJTAG Professional tools to debug and test the prototypes, check hardware, and verify signals through the backplane connectors on the boards. Hardware verification can be run without specific test software for a target board, noted Jeff Smith, hardware engineer, R&D, Westinghouse.
The industrial controls company, which supplies advanced integrated signaling and control systems for main-line and mass-transit railways, chose XJTAG's JTAG solution for ease-of-use and cost-of-ownership benefits, as well as the system's functional-test library and range of functions for JTAG and non-JTAG testing. The tools allow Westinghouse to control devices from the inside and regain visibility of all hidden BGA interconnections in the JTAG chain, explained Smith. It also enables designers to read or write pins and busses through the XJAnalyser.
The Westinghouse prototype PCBs include high-pin-count JTAG-enabled devices. The company will use an XJIO expansion board for non-JTAG devices and signal verification.
