DEK, BTU Partner on Solar Cell Manufacturing
September 6, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MILAN, Italy At the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference in Milan, Sept. 3–7) DEK and BTU International announced an alliance to deliver a complete in-line metallization process solution for solar cell manufacturing.
By combining DEK's printing technology with BTU's high-performance drying and firing system, this partnership aims to drive down the cost per watt of solar cell manufacturing. The two companies share a booth at the Milan-based conference.
DEK's Europa and Galaxy printer platforms use a mass-imaging process to create finer features required to manufacture solar cells. Process control is key to printing polymer thick-film conductive inks, and, repotedly, The company's enclosed print-head system makes this possible. BTU supplies advanced thermal processing equipment to electronics manufacturing and alternative energy markets. Their reflow equipment has traditionally targeted PCB assembly, wafer-level packaging, and die-level packaging sectors. In keeping with current needs, the company also provides thermal process equipment for solar cell, nuclear fuel, and fuel cell industries.
"BTU and DEK both hold technology leadership positions, creating a rare opportunity to create a powerful synergistic partnership to serve the photovoltaic industry," said Paul van der Wansem, BTU chairman and CEO.
