June Book-to-Bill Hovers Above Parity
July 30, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
BANNOCKBURN, Ill. The combined June Book-to-Bill ratio for rigid and flex circuits remains just at parity, reports IPC Association Connecting Electronics Industries from its monthly North American PCB Statistical Program.
For rigid and flexible circuits combined, industry shipments in June 2007 decreased 11% from last year, and orders booked dropped 12.2%. Combined industry shipments are down 10.4% and bookings are down 14.9% year-to-date. Compared to May 2007, combined industry shipments are up 11.8%; bookings rose 19%.
Rigid PCB shipments are down 10.7% and bookings are down 9.8% in June 2007 from June 2006. Rigid shipments are down 10.9%, and bookings are down 16.3%, year-to-date. However, compared to May, rigid PCB shipments showed a 12.3% improvement, and rigid bookings climbed 20.8%. The rigid book-to-bill ratio is now just above parity at 1.01.
Flexible circuit shipments in June 2007 were down 14.1%; bookings plunged 37.8% from this time last year. Flexible circuit shipments are own 2.3% year-to-date, while bookings are up 7.3%. Flex shipments and bookings are both down compared to May 2007, dipping 4.5% and 3.4%, respectively. The flexible circuit book-to-bill, however, remained positive at 1.12 in June, indicating probably sales growth in the near future, notes IPC.
Combined ratios have remained near parity for a few months, "indicating that PCB sales are likely to continue at about the same level during the third quarter," notes Denny McGuirk, IPC president. "This year's sales are continuing at around 10% below 2006 sales. This reflects the continuing economic slowdown, but business is holding steady at current levels," added McGuirk.
