Printer Integrates Inspection, Alignment
July 26, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
FRANKLIN, Mass. Speedline Technologies introduced its next-generation MPM printer to the North American market with enhanced signal communication and minimized cabling and wires. The Momentum is a general-purpose printer targeting reliability, flexibility, and simplified operation, according to the company.
The system performs alignment and post-print inspection with a high-speed USB digital camera encompassing proprietary look-up/look-down capability, telecentric lens, and advanced lighting. Inspection ranges from SpeedVision through contrast-based 2-D, BridgeVision, and StencilVision. Accuracy is measured at ±12.5 µm at six sigma, Cpk ≥ 2.0. Cycle time is less than 10 seconds, excluding print. The system accepts boards from 50.8 × 50.8 mm to 609 × 508 mm.
The machine features CANopen motion control and I/O architecture to improve signal communication and movement. Proprietary transport and squeegee systems with software controls complement a vacuum stencil wiper and proprietary roller solvent bar delivery system. The frame is welded, tubular steel with rigid machined castings, a single front-fixed rail conveyor with top clamp and center-nest vacuum hold-down. The framing is designed to eliminate wires and cabling that could obstruct operators and maintenance, according to the company.
Benchmark software controls operation, with a common MPM graphical user interface (GUI) and networkability for remote management. Wizards provide error recovery, regulate functions, and monitor utilities in a "never-lost" sequence. Any existing process program can serve as a template for new projects, and file creation is reportedly complete in less than 10 minutes. The printer's software collects data for statistical process control (SPC) functions and performs process verification. RemoteTech non-intrusive diagnostics enable remote troubleshooting and support.
