BenQ Sells off Taipei Buildings

TAIPEI, Taiwan BenQ Corporation entered into an agreement to sell two office buildings to Taiwan-based Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (SKL). BenQ will lease back the larger building, which is its Taiwan headquarters. The transaction is valued at $5.037 billion (NTD), about $153.5 million U.S.
The Taipei headquarters building is a 14-story, 39,168.66 sq.m. space; the adjacent building SKL purchased is an 11-story, 19,945.67 sq.m. structure. The sale is designed to strengthen BenQ financially, said Eric Yu, company spokesperson, who referenced SKL's property management experience as valuable. BenQ expects to record a gain of $1.2 billion (NTD $36.6 million U.S.) on the sale, which should be completed within two months.
