Design Competition Rewards Electronics and Environment
June 12, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
CHICAGO Premier Farnell plc launched an international design competition to showcase creativity and innovation in electronics design. The competition, "Live Edge," invites students, academics, and electrical engineers to submit designs incorporating electronic components and resulting in a positive environmental impact, such as carbon emissions reduction. The global competition will be conducted primarily via the internet, with live conferencing and broadcasts and electronic submissions. Newark, a Premier Farnell business, will support the contest in the Americas.
The winner receives a cash prize of $50,000 and about $50,000 in assistance to move the design into production. The package includes electronic design consultancy services to develop the design into a prototype, legal advising and intellectual property (IP) registration, marketing and publicity, and Premier Farnell's help in raising investment funds. Up to five other entrants will receive honorable mentions with a $5,000 cash prize.
The judging panel will include innovators, engineers, entrepreneurs, academics, industry leaders, and environmental campaigners. Deadline for registration is October 31, 2007, with product designs due by November 30, 2007. The winner will be announced in January 2008. For details, visit www.live-edge.com.
