Taiwan EMS Strong in Q'02
May 14, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
TAIPEI, Taiwan Taiwan's major electronics firms saw strong April sales, up year-over-year though down slightly from the previous month. Consumer trends significantly impacted electronics production, reports China Economic News Service (CENS).
Hon Hai leads Taiwan's EMS providers with 2007 revenue reaching NT$331.4 billion (US$10.04 billion). The company saw 39.93% increase year-over-year in April, and dropped 3.6% from March. CENS cited product diversity and a strong components inventory as reasons for Hon Hai's stable revenue.
Asustek Computer Inc. grew 70% in revenues from April 2006 to April 2007, but fell 41.4% from the previous month. It posted NT$277.1 billion (US$8.39 billion) in sales in the first four months of 2007, a 116% jump over 2006. The sharp decline in April is attributed to lowered shipments of gaming consoles to Sony Corp. CENS reports that Asustek expects brand operations revenues to offset losses in contract manufacturing for Q'02.
The third largest electronics firm, Quanta Computer Inc., saw 35% cumulative sales growth through April; Compal Electronics Inc., fourth in the ranking, saw 58% year-over-year growth through April.
