Nordson Adds Inspection, Dispensing Businesses
May 9, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
WESTLAKE, OH Nordson Corporation acquired YESTech, Inc., adding the AOI and X-ray supplier to its Dage Holdings company; and PICO Dosiertechnik (PICODOSTEC), a piezoelectric dispensing system company that will join Nordson's Asymtek subsidiary, in two separate purchases. The total acquisition cost about $53 million. Nordson expects to leverage the business' core technologies across its advanced technology segment for packaging and electronics assembly products.
YESTech, headquartered in San Clemente, CA, employs 23 people; PICODOSTEC employs 12 workers and is based near Munich, Germany. Together, YESTech and PICODOSTEC accrued 2006 revenues of about $20 million. YESTech produces mid-range X-ray inspection machines, while Dage is focused on high-end digital X-ray capabilities, noted Don Miller, president, YESTech. "We're excited about the commonalities and synergy we have with the Nordson portfolio," he added, saying that YESTech primarily supplies high-quality automated optical inspection (AOI) systems, and will bring these capabilities to the Dage business. "We operate an office in Shanghai, China, as well, and YESTech anticipates increased efforts in this region with Nordson's global reach," Miller said. China in particular is a region of growth for YESTech, agreed Julie Hrabak, manager, corporate communications, Nordson. "We are looking to bring YESTech into all Nordson's distribution channels as a part of the Dage subsidiary," she added.
Product miniaturization and component complexity, along with complex board designs, are positive trends for YESTech and PICODOSTEC, said Edward Campbell, chairman and CEO of Nordson. YESTech products complement the digital X-ray inspection systems and bond testers at Dage, and PICODOSTEC piezoelectric technology suits Asymtek's jetting products as well as adhesive dispensing and finishing products from the corporation's EFD subsidiary. While many of the Nordson companies collaborate on product lines and core technologies, company representatives assert that it is too early to determine how or when the new acquisitions will be part of these joint efforts. PICODOSTEQ's technology can be cross-pollinated throughout the Nordson advanced technology companies, said Hrabak. "There are opportunities to use the piezoelectric technology in many core products." PICODOSTEC will retain its name and operations, but will collaborate, as will YESTech, within the Nordson corporate group.
