Purchased in 1991 by Jim and Sue Krehbiel, NBI Inc. is an ISO:9001:2000-certified contract manufacturer with customers in the medical, music, industrial, communications, and semiconductor markets. This higher-mix/low-volume facility offers quick turns, prototyping, and personalized customer service.
Taylor Guitars, a customer of NBI, asked them to manufacture boards for a custom acoustic/electric guitar for the artist Prince. The purple boards were aptly etched with the words “Purple Rain.”

NBI started manufacturing lead-free product in February 2006; now about 50% of their products are RoHS-compliant. To ensure product quality standards, all of the company’s assemblers are IPC-A-610D certified.

Vi Sayaseng, inspector, handles boards post-reflow. NBI manufactures complex boards with with leadless chip carriers (LLCs). When these components began shifting during reflow, they examined the process and modified their screen to accommodate this design.
