CLEANING MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT
Silicone-free Cleaning SystemCapable of removing dry, unattached particles down to 1 μm, the silicone-free contact cleaning roller system, in conjunction with a complementary sheeted film adhesive system, cleans PCBs, labels, and silicone-sensitive products. Based on a polymer chemistry, the rollers are available in up to 2-m widths, and feature electrostatic discharge (ESD) properties The adhesive rolls are said to provide good rewind quality. Teknek, Inchinnan, Scotland, U.K., www.teknek.com.
COMPONENTS
Miniature Tantalum CapacitorDesigned for audio applications in miniature devices such as MP3 players and cell phones, the T-case TLJ tantalum capacitor has a maximum height of 1.2 mm and a 1411 footprint. It boasts a 220-µF, 4-V capacitance vs. voltage ratio and capacitance tolerance of ±20%. The capacitor operates between -55°C and +125°C, is RoHS-compliant, and can tolerate reflow temperatures of 260°C. AVX Corporation, Myrtle Beach, S.C., www.avx.com.
RFID Solution
RFID tags, inlays, readers, antennae, and software solutions are offered in an end-to-end RFID package. Labels and tags come molded, removable, or self-adhesive. Material properties of the RFID labels allow use in harsh environments, such as aerospace, defense, transportation, and medical applications. Ruggedized system-level solutions in RFID readers and antennae are available in low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF), and ultra-high frequency (UHF). Tyco Electronics, Harrisburg, Pa., www.tycoelectronics.com.
Liquid-cooled Subsystem
Engineered with dual-die packaging technology and a low profile, the CoolFlex family of liquid-cooled DDR2 registered DIMMs remove heat without fans or conventional heatsinks. The RoHS-compliant modules are designed for use with standard blade servers and high-performance computing applications. They are available in 2- and 4-Gb densities. The product comprises a four-sided flex PCB folded over an aluminum core, with integrated technology that pumps an inert liquid through a closed-loop architecture of flexible plastic tubes running from the manifold to the processors and memory modules. The heated fluid is returned to the thermal server, processed through the heat exchanger, and circulated back into the server. HARDWARE/ACCESSORIES
Thru-hole to SMT AdapterFor prototyping and testing SSOP ICs, the SOWIC-to-DIP Correct-A-Chip adapter ARI-A-7256 allows 0.65-mm-pitch SMT ICs to replace thru-hole designs on a PCB. It is available in a RoHS-compliant version. Constructed of 1.58-mm FRA-06 or IS410, with 1 oz. of copper traces on both sides, adapter pins comprise hard brass alloy (per UNS C36000 ASTM-B16-85) with gold plating (per MIL-G-45204) over nickel (per QQ-N-290). With a 1-A current rating, the adapter operates at 105°C. Suggested PCB hole diameter equals 0.71 mm. Aries Electronics, Frenchtown, N.J., www.arieselec.com.
INSPECTION EQUIPMENT
Automated X-ray Inspection SystemThe X1 automated X-ray inspection (AXI) system features intuitive programming, including a standard package library and remote option. It analyzes solder joints automatically to detect structural defects such as insufficient solder, voiding, shorts, and opens. The system offers real-time statistical process control (SPC). YESTech, San Clemente, Calif., www.yestechinc.com.
Automatic 3-D X-ray Inspection
The X7056 is a high-performance 3-D automatic optical X-ray inspection (AXI) system with parallel top and bottom optical inspection. The micro-focus X-ray tube offers 15-um per pixel resolution; Easy3D software yields accurate image quality. The system also can be equipped with AOI cameras, for simultaneous inspection of the top and bottom sides of PCBs. Simultaneous inspection and double-track loading are said to give users rapid inspection with minimal handling times. Other features include rapid program generation using Viscom EasyPro software and a range of inspection algorithms. System hardware and software are compatible with all Viscom AOI systems. Viscom Inc., Americas, Duluth, Ga., www.viscom.com.
180-kV X-ray Tube
Microme|x, nanome|x, and nanotom inspection systems have been upgraded with standard 180-kV nanofocus X-ray tubes, allowing the inspection of highly radiation-absorbent electronic assemblies, including those populated with heatsinks or steel components, with improved clarity and image sensitivity. Nanome|x and nanotom can inspect BGAs lengthwise with the 180-kV tube. The machines also include fully digital 2- or 5-megapixel image chains and 24" TFT displays. phoenix|x-ray, St. Petersburg, Fla., www.phoenix-xray.com.
SCREEN PRINTING
Cross-reference Squeegee ListA list of new part numbers and direct metal-blade specifications let EMS facilities cross-reference OEM metal squeegee blades to Permalex blades for replacement or retrofitting. The list includes popular squeegee sizes from DEK, Speedline, Ekra, and SpeedPrint factory-supplied holders for blade replacement. It also includes a format for collecting and communicating variations in blade styles, such as hole patterns. Transition Automation, Inc., North Billerica, Mass., www.transitionautomation.com.
SOFTWARE
Process AutomationvPlan offers a three-step enterprise-level process engineering solution. Operators define the product, creating a normalized and validated virtual PCB with a lean data model; auto-generate machine shapes by defining production resources; then generate manufacturing process definitions (MPD), which contain output and documentation for assembly machines and manual work cells matched to available resources as well as the product model. A “learning-library” feature allows users to read or define data once, then use it multiple times. The product can reportedly reduce rework by increasing overall equipment effectiveness and process flow. Valor Computerized Systems, Yavne, Israel, www.valor.com.
REWORK/REPAIR
Pad Repair KitTo repair circuit pads on PCBs, this kit includes “how-to” slides, a selection of pad sizes, and tooling. The kit is said to reduce time spent trimming pads on circuit frames, and also includes materials for lead-free, RoHS-compliant PCB repairs. BEST Inc., Rolling Meadows, Ill., www.solder.net.
