DoD/NASA Database Consolidates Cleaning Information
March 7, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
PORT HUENEME, Calif. The joint service solvent substitution working group (JS3WG) created an internet-based database of solvent substitution efforts for cleaning military electronics. The database provides resources for component, sub-assembly, and end-product manufacturers; and cleaning agent suppliers, serving military and aerospace sectors.
The Department of Defense (DoD) and National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) maintain and distribute solvent substitution efforts through the working group. The group aims to eliminate products containing hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) from board cleaning processes, and prevent duplicate efforts by disseminating information.
Industry members can also use the database, available at js3.ctc.com, to evaluate cleaning products with low or no volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), submit comments and questions, and contribute independent test results. JS3WG encourages basing submitted tests on recognized industry standards.
