February 27, 2007 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
BANNOCKBURN, Ill. IPC Association Connecting Electronics Industries celebrated its 50th anniversary at IPC Printed Circuits Expo/APEX/Designers Summit, using the opportunity to recognize achievements from lifelong service to nascent technology development. IPC presented the Raymond E. Pritchard hall of fame; Peter Sarmanian and Stan Plzak corporate recognition; leadership, service, and special recognition individual; and innovative technologies awards during the show.
John T. (Jack) Fisher, of Interconnect Technology Analysis, Inc., received the 2006 hall of fame award for exceptional lifetime achievement. Since 1995, Fisher has served as chairman of the working committee of the IPC roadmap, publishing six versions in his tenure. He created a detailed, pointed study of industry needs and methods to achieve these goals, said IPC representatives. Fisher began his career in 1965 with IBM, and has worked with the Interconnect Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and diverse other roadmapping groups. He served on the IPC surface mount council and participates on the Jisso North America Council technical and roadmap teams. Fisher also contributes to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and iNEMI roadmaps. He is an established member of the innovative technology center's review board.
Rockwell Collins, IPC member since 1965 and member of the executive market and technology forum since 1999, took the Peter Sarmanian corporate recognition award for leadership and contributions to the PCB industry. The newly introduced corporate awards recognize companies that demonstrate support of IPC by participating in technical, management, or other programs. The Stan Plzak award, also new this year, went to L-3 Communications CS-West, for active contribution to bettering the industry while collaborating with IPC; it is open to suppliers, EMS providers, and OEMs. L-3 Communications works with communications systems for high-performance intelligence collection, imagery processing, and satellite communications for government agencies. CS-West, IPC member since 1997, conducts training classes on a weekly basis with its IPC-certified trainers, and also has participated in about 40 technical committees.
Individuals that lent services and other contributions to the IPC received distinguished committee leadership awards (20), distinguished committee service awards (79), and special recognition awards (6) at APEX. For a list of winners contact Anna Garrido or visit www.ipc.org.
IPC recognized 10 companies for developing new and emerging technologies, displaying white papers, charts, and product graphics for winners in the innovative technology center at the show.
