The American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) certified E-Certa laboratory of Bloomington, Ind., for X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis and ISO17025. XRF accreditation was based on ISO3497 and ASTM B568 methods. E-Certa’s laboratory performs component conversions, changing leaded to lead-free and vice versa. XRF testing is performed to ensure compliance with RoHS and related directives.
Paumanok Publications released “Inductors for Digital Electronics: Global Market Forecasts: 2007-2011,” a market study on the consumption of discrete inductors for digital electronic devices, particularly high-growth sectors. The study emphasizes multi-layered chip inductors, ferrite bead and surface mount wire-wound coil inductors, which are consumed in large quantities in China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, and the U.S. The study noted concern within the sector regarding an upcoming discretes shortage.
To advance soldering processes, Vitronics Soltec of Stratham, N.H., and KIC (San Diego) formed a technology partnership. Combining soldering knowledge and process management and traceability will increase yield, machine uptime, throughput, and productivity, according to both companies.

Howell, Mich.-based Horizon Sales became Midwest manufacturing representative for Inovaxe (Sarasota, Fla.), offering the INOCART and INOKIT products. Horizon will exclusively cover western Pa., Ohio, Mich., Ind., and Ky.
Indium Corporation (Clinton, N.Y.) chose BarTron, Inc. (Rochester, Mich.) as sales representative in Michigan. Founded in 1990, BarTron provides sales and service for electronics assembly materials such as solder, flux, underfill, and epoxies.
For completing the “Certification for Lead-free Electronics Assembly Process Capability Program,” Bannockburn, Ill.-based IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries awarded certification to Riverside Electronics, Ltd., of Lewiston, Minn. Completing the audit program validates our processes, capabilities, and commitment to lead-free, said Gregg Reick, general manager of the EMS provider.
Asymtek, a Nordson company, sold its 1,000th Century Series conformal coating unit in Europe. Siemens Automation and Drives will use the system in its Erlangen, Germany, equipment plant for mask-free deposition of conformal coating on motion-control electronics assemblies. Siemens has added six Asymtek coating units since 1996.
In a corporate interview, Murata executive vice president John Denslinger predicted a positive trend in demand for passives through 2007, with consumers driving the market. He foresees module expansion and miniaturization technology enabling seamless wireless connectivity. NPIs and possible acquisitions will add to corporate growth, he stated.
The North American Components (NAC) business of Arrow Electronics, Inc. (Melville, N.Y.) will offer specialized electronics components and connection systems from Phoenix Contact as part of a U.S. distribution agreement. NAC will distribute Phoenix products through three groups: Arrow/Zeus Electronics Group for aero/military markets, Arrow Electronic Components Group for local OEMs and CMs, and Arrow Alliance Group for large customers with complex needs.
