Forum Investigates Pros, Cons of Global Business
December 8, 2006 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
LOS ANGELES "Asian-developed and Implemented Technologies and Business Practices You May Have Missed: Equipment, Materials, and Manufacturing Processes," a February 21, 2007, forum developed by Weiner & Associates for IPC Printed Circuits Expo/APEX/Designers Summit, offers four perspectives on international business relationships, and advice on assessing Asian relations.
The four speakers all work closely with Asia whether in forming industry roadmaps or developing joint, international ventures. Presenters include Stan Erickson, global business director for semiconductor packaging and circuit materials, electronic technologies strategic business unit, DuPont; Hamed El-Abd, president, WKK Distribution Ltd. and executive director of WKK International; Henry Hisanobu Utsunomiya, president, Interconnection Technologies, Inc.; and Erick W. Walker, president and CEO, ORC Imaging Corporation.
Erickson assesses and develops growth opportunities, including joint ventures, in Europe and Asia. He will present "Partnering in Asia," focused on delineating benefits and deterrents in licensing, joint development agreements, and joint ventures.
El-Abd chairs the Hong Kong Electronics Packaging and Manufacturing Services Association and lectures on engineering at City University in Hong Kong. His presentation, "The Dragon is Awake!," will explore open opportunities in China, and the plausibility of outsourcing. Increasing wages, environmental controls, and productivity efficiency in the former "sleeping dragon" state will shape the discussion.
Utsunomiya pioneered commercial organic-substrate development in Japan and developed Jisso a Japanese industry roadmap similar to ITRS or iNEMI from 1999 to 2005. His presentation, "The Advanced PWB Technologies in Japan," will follow PWB technology trends. Utsunomiya will define PWB technology as two groups highly functional density fabricated into intelligent design and fine-line circuits extending conventional technology. Embedded components also will be highlighted.
Walker will study less-tangible matters in "Effects of Culture on Business Transactions in China," summarizing the effects of national, local, and corporate culture on international strategies and financial matters. He will present a model for structuring early negotiations, venture definition, implementation, and sustaining activities between the West and Asia.
