Guide Offers Tips on Flex Circuit Design
December 6, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MINNEAPOLIS Minco released the "Flex Circuits Design Guide" for use, in conjunction with IPC design standards, in designing and integrating flexible circuits.Flexible circuits offer compact, low-mass packaging, said Mark Finstad, principal applications engineer for the flex circuit division of Minco, and chairman of IPC-2223 workgroup, adding that many engineers are unfamiliar with methods of proper flex-circuit use. Nick Koop, flex circuits division manager and chairman of IPC-6013 workgroup, called the product a collection of "tips and tools." IPC standard IPC-2223 regulates flex circuit design, while IPC-6013 provides guidelines on performance with flex.
The guide educates engineers on design guidelines and specifications, and instructions on how to build a flex-circuit mock-up, with ancillary illustrations. Recommendations on optimizing applications and interconnections with flex circuits, and a tutorial on different types of flex circuits supplement the instructions.
