Service Notifies of Part Changes
October 3, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
ROCHESTER, NY EMA Design Automation announced the availability of products and services for component event management. Provided by PCNAlert, the offering brings end-of-life and other supply chain related notices to PCB designers.
Design engineers face constant part obsolescence problems, said Manny Marcano, president and CEO of EMA, adding that engineers must find all end-of-life and part-change notifications from various manufacturers and vendors relevant to their design. The services reportedly enable quick retrieval of key part information and help companies avoid board redesign. PCNAlert ranks a manufacturer based on its notification process; engineers and procurers can assess risks based on these rankings.
The service includes daily checks with manufacturers for posted part-change notices. The package comprises AVLalert for component event monitoring, and BOMverifier for automatic bill of materials (BOM) and parts list "scrubbing," which compiles all relevant data for traceability in production.
