Flextronics Signs Deal with Kodak

ROCHESTER, N.Y and SINGAPORE Eastman Kodak Company has entered into an agreement with Flextronics International Ltd., to manufacture and distribute Kodak consumer digital cameras. Flextronics will also manage certain design and development processes. Kodak will retain its intellectual property (IP), and will continue to conduct R&D.
Kodak agreed to divest digital camera manufacturing requirements to Flextronics, including assembly, production, and testing, as well as operations and logistics services. About 550 personnel will be transferred from Kodak to Flextronics' facilities. Flextronics will acquire a portion of the Kodak Digital Product Centers in Chino and Yokohama, Japan. Similar arrangements will be made regarding Kodak Electronic Products, Shanghai Co. Ltd., China.
Koda cited streamlining their operations as the impetus for the agreement. Design will be carried out in Japan; production will be in the Flextronics China facility. The deal should be finalized in Q'03, 2006.
