Part List Management Tool Option for CADSTAR Available
May 22, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MUNICH, Germany, and WESTFORD, Mass. — Zuken and U.K.-based Quadra Solutions have teamed to launch starturn, a part list management option for Zuken's CADSTAR desktop PCB design software.
Starturn features four areas of functionality said to enhance post-design documentation within the CADSTAR environment. Features include advanced export functionality for bill of materials (BOMs), enhanced drill-drawing exports and report generation, assembly drawing creation, and a "where-used" search capability for quickly compiling design-derived manufacturing and purchasing reports.
BOMs can be exported into various file formats, including HTML, Microsoft Excel, and XML. For a fully tailored output, users can specify design fields that should be included. The management option generates drill tables within the PCB design, reportedly saving time associated with cutting and pasting from drill reports. Drill-hole mark-ups can also be administered in several ways within the design.
Circuit references can be cited in multiple places within the design using associated attributes. Searching for parts within the parts library is done with functionality that lets users select any part and search within any file directory. This capability is said to be suitable when managing parts obsolescence.
