PCB Book-to-bill ratioOctober Book-to-Bill Ratio Dips
NORTHBROOK, Ill. - The IPC IMS/PCB book-to-bill ratio for October 2005 declined slightly to 1.13. IPC reports a rise in the book-to-bill for rigid PCBs to 1.14, while the North American flexible circuit book-to-bill ratio experienced a sharp drop to 1.10. For these segments combined, sales billed (shipments) for October 2005 increased 8.5% year-over-year, and orders booked decreased 0.4% from October 2004.
October’s overall book-to-bill lost steam this month, and combined orders booked for October 2005 dipped 0.4% from last year.
China Distributor Offers Test & Inspection Service
NAPLES, Fla. and HONG KONG - Distributors who purchase electronic components from China-based companies risk acquiring fraudulent or substandard parts. The Electronic Resellers Association (EFAI) and Hong Kong-based White Horse Strategic Solutions will provide an independent distribution channel featuring test and inspection services. With quality assurance an imperative piece of distribution, there often is a delay when dealing with China-based suppliers shipping parts to a U.S.-based testing facility. With this alliance, White Horse Strategic Solutions can test products in China - reducing the overall transaction time. Depending on a customer’s needs, various packages are available - from basic physical inspection to full-parametric testing.
Henkel Acquires Stake in Epoxy Molding Maker
DÜSSELDORF, Germany - The Henkel Group has acquired a majority stake in Huawei Electronics Co. Ltd., Lianyungang, in the Chinese province of Yiangsu. Huawei Electronics manufactures epoxy-molding compounds for semiconductors in China. The joint venture allows Henkel to broaden its global presence and product portfolio. “Henkel and Huawei Electronics share a broad-based technical expertise and hold a well-established global supply chain,” states Patrick Trippel, president of the Electronics Group of Henkel.
Conference Promotes Green Manufacturing
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The SMTA announced a call for participation for the Third International Conference and Exhibition on Green Manufacturing and Industry Development for Electronics Products, which will be held May 13-14, 2006, in Tianjin, China. The conference is meant to promote green electronic manufacturing and provide information on the recycling of waste electronic products.
Abstracts of 200-400 words, including topic, keywords, and overviews should be submitted by January 30, 2006, to SMTA administrator JoAnn Stromberg. IPC Marks 50 Years, Publishes History Book
BANNOCKBURN, Ill. - We’ve come a long way, and IPC - the Association Connecting Electronics Industries - will prove it. IPC plans to publish a surface mount technology history book in early 2007, corresponding with the association’s 50th anniversary. IPC was founded in 1957 when five printed wiring board (PWB) companies formed the Institute for Printed Circuits. The book will chronicle the history of all segments of the electronics manufacturing industry. “These past 50 years have been a time of rapid changes in electronics manufacturing technology,” comments Denny McGuirk, president of IPC. “The history of IPC is woven into the fabric of our industry, and vice-versa.” Michael Martel of MMC, Inc. will compile information and write the book. University of Tokyo, Sharp Create R&D Center
TOKYO - The Nanoelectronics Collaborative Research Center (NCRC), under the Institute for Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo and Sharp Corporation, has established Todai-Sharp Laboratories, a center focusing on R&D for flexible electronics. The facility will operate under a five-year collaborative research agreement between the University of Tokyo and Sharp.
IMS Selects NextWave as Israel Rep
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - International Manufacturing Services (IMS), a provider of thick-film resistors and substrates, has appointed NextWave Technologies as its Israel representative. NextWave represents several companies in the RF and microwave electronics manufacturing industries.
