Speedprint Platforms Feature VacuNest Tooling Solution
December 29, 2005 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
DORSET, U.K. As part of an OEM agreement, Speedprint Technology will offer Novatec's VacuNest Shape Memory tool solution on its printer platforms.
VacuNest is a shape memory tool that combines the benefits of a custom tooling plate with pins. An antistatic membrane covers a foam former surrounded by polymer granules. When a board is placed onto the modules, users press down, pull a vaccum and the board shape profile is held in memory. Chambers are profiled to the shape of the underside of the board. Upon activation of the vacuum, the shape will be held until the vacuum is released. This feature reportedly enables the quick creation of a custom board support.
Because support forces are spread evenly over the board, VacuNest does not damage the component. The tooling feature is also said to eliminate the cost of a custom tooling plate and pin tooling. VacuNext can handle high-density boards.
