CLINTON, N.Y. — Indium Corp.'s senior technologist, Ronald C. Lasky, Ph.D., PE, and Tim Jensen, Pb-free programs manager, are scheduled to speak at several educational forums for the SMTA's regional North American chapters. Their goal is to help prepare members for the European Union's directives for WEEE/RoHS compliance.SMTA Chapters in Connecticut, Toronto, Utah, Kansas, Montreal and New York have hosted Indium's lead-free experts throughout September, October and November. Additional forums are also scheduled in Oregon on November 16th, New Mexico on December 1st, Michigan on December 13th and Houston on January 17, 2006. Chapters interested in hosting a lead-free educational forum should contact Jensen at tjensen@indium.com, or call (315) 853-4900. The educational forums consist of presentations on The Dartmouth Protocol for WEEE and RoHS Compliance and Best Practices in Implementing Pb-Free Assembly. The Dartmouth Protocol was developed by Dr. Lasky, a visiting professor at Dartmouth College, along with graduate students and alumni, in response to the growing need for a systematic approach to meeting the European Directive. The protocol helps companies tp prepare and develop a plan for compliance with these directives. Best Practices in Implementing Pb-Free Assembly focuses on the "how-to" of implementing lead-free at factories, covering such issues as PWB finishes, components, alloys and SMT processes. It also includes actual implementations of lead-free processes and presents significant data on process and product reliability.
