SMTA Honors Members at SMTA International
October 7, 2005 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MINNEAPOLIS During the annual SMTA meeting at SMTA International, the association honored members who have shown exceptional service to the SMTA and the industry.
Greg Evans, president of Indium Corporation, received the Founder's Award, which acknowledges an individual's contribution to the SMTA and the industry. Evans has been an SMTA member since 1985, serving on the Board of Directors from 1994-2000 in several roles. He also chaired the Membership and Awards Committee and served on the International Development Committee. Evans encourages Indium employees to become involved as chapter leaders, committee members and participants at SMTA events.
The Member of Distinction Award was presented posthumously to Ron Daniels of Circuitnet and ITM Consulting. Daniels supported SMTA locally, through the Atlanta chapter, and nationally as a member of the SMTA International Technical Committee. Daniels also helped found the Hutchins Grant Committee following the untimely death of Charles Hutchins.
Michael Jansen of Lucent Technologies and Gary Tanel of TechBiz Consulting, LLC received the Excellence in Leadership Award. Jansen has been key in carrying out the SMTA mission at the local level, planning monthly meetings for the Boston Chapter. He also arranged several joint activities with IMAPS, including social events in which SMTA members were introduced to technologies not generally covered within the industry. Tanel served on the Board of Directors from 1999-2002 as the vice president of membership and as a Planning Committee member, while chairing the Membership Committee and serving on several other committees. Tanel also helped develop a Website for the SMTA. He has been chapter officer in Dallas, including secretary, treasurer and president.
ITM Consulting (Durham, N.H.) received the SMTA+ Corporate Partnership Award for its continued support of the association. As a corporate member of SMTA since 1987, ITM Consulting is a small company in which all of its employees show strong dedication to SMTA and its activities. ITM Consulting president Phil Zarrow serves as an SMTA Board Member, teaches courses and workshops, chairs sessions, presents papers and moderates panel discussions. Jim Hall, one of the first SMTA members, has served as an instructor of the Certification Program, as well as several courses. Ron Daniels helped create the SMTA Hutchins Grant and the Job Center; and Bob Klenke has provided SMTA with marketing efforts and leadership at the local chapter.
