High-volume Selective Solder System Highlighted
October 4, 2005 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
WILLOW GROVE, Pa. — The Automation Group of Tyco Electronics showcased its Harmony-SPX, a multi-axis Cartesian Robot designed to selectively solder thru-hole and odd-form components into surface mount and mixed-technology PCBs at last week's Assembly Technology Expo in Rosemont, Ill. The Harmony-SPX module conforms to SMEMA in-line manufacturing standards, and is suitable for applications where products are manufactured in small- or large-lot quantities and a high product mix. The conveyor system is inherent to the Robot, expanding from 4" to 18" under program control. Rotation and tilt axis are built into the conveyor head; and the conveyor lines up and receives an incoming PCB. They system is configurable with two 350-lb. solder pots. The system's solder station features "FlexSite Technology," which allows for up to six separate solder nozzles that are selectable under program control. Each nozzle features quick disconnects and are equipped with a servo-pump motor and heated nitrogen diffuser.
