Productronica Products
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 4 minutes
The following is a variety of products offered from just a few of the exhibiting companies slated to be at Productronica 2005, November 15-18, in Munich, Germany. Be sure to visit each exhibiting company for more complete product offerings.
X-ray Inspection
The SMT version of the COUGAR-VXP addresses advanced inspection requirements specific to SMT production, such as BGA, µBGA and wafer-level chip scale packages. COUGAR-VXP includes a microfocus X-ray tube up to 160 Kv; a standard 5-axes manipulator with Auto Isocentric Motion (AIM) technology for oblique viewing; CNC capabilities; HDX-ray real-time, 16-bit image processing; a CMOS digital flat-panel detector and a hardware-driven anti-collision system. The system provides feature recognition down to 1 µm with a total magnification of up to 6,000× and True X-ray Intensity (TXI) control for stable, permanent image quality. A small, 1 × 1-m footprint and front- and side-door service access make the system ideal for multiple assembly environments. FEINFOCUS, a COMET business unit, Garbsen, Germany.
Manufacturing Solution
DAS 30 is a reconfigurable manufacturing solution developed to arrange and control production flow, enabling changes to be made during projects, as well as offering a more efficient factory layout or the ability to change the existing layout. It is a scalable, modular and reconfigurable system for dynamic markets with optimized levels of automation. Standardization and interoperability is based on IPC/CAMX. FlexLink AB, Göteberg, Sweden.
Test Probes
The series GKS-050, -075 and -100 test probes for in-circuit and functional test can be soldered directly onto a PCB. The probes can test cable harness and connectors, making them suitable for the automotive market. The probes are available in screw-in, push-back, high-current and switching formats. INGUN Prüfmittelbau GmbH, Konstanz, Germany.
Rework System
The MFR Series Multi-function Rework System has a compact power unit that offers two ports to attach MFR Series tools for rework applications, SMT tasks and thru-hole soldering and desoldering. For heavier or varied workloads, multiple units can be interlocked to power several tools. The series offers a choice of heater tips or tip cartridges. Heater tips are designed to meet point-to-point production soldering demands, while tip cartridges suit high-performance soldering and rework applications. The series and tips are suitable for use with lead-free applications. MRF Series tools include the MFR-PTZ Precision Tweezer System with dual fine-point adjustment and pivot action; MFR-SRC solder/rework cartridge system for high-performance soldering and rework; the MFR-PST production solder-tip system for point-to-point production soldering; and the MFR-DSI and MFR-DSX desoldering stations. OK International, Menlo Park, Calif.
Solder Module
The Quick-Change solder module featuring an UltraFill Nozzle is said to ease changeover between tin/lead and lead-free alloys. The unit is mounted in a cart, facilitating transportation to and from storage locations. The module’s cast iron solder pot and components are resistant to corrosive lead-free solders and can withstand temperatures up to 315ºC. All stainless-steel components that contact the solder are composed of ElectroCoat corrosion-resistive surface conversion. A titanium option is also available. Speedline Technologies, Massachusetts
Rotary Placement Head
The Lightning rotary placement head enables all platform lines for medium- to high-volume assembly applications. The placement head features 30 independently controlled spindles with touchdown sense, auto-Z update at pickup and board Z-height mapping to compensate for possible board warpage. Dual-head optics allow the head to address components ranging from 01005s to 30 × 30 mm, while supporting component pre-orientation to enhance throughput and productivity. Universal Instruments, Binghamton, N.Y.
Hot-air Oven
Two full-convection circulating hot-air ovens featuring four top- and bottom-heating zones are available for lead-free soldering. The Breeze is a compact reflow oven featuring a total process length of 1,200 mm, while the Solano is a medium-sized reflow oven with a total process length of 2,250 mm. Both ovens are said to offer a powerful convection heating regardless of component size or mass. Ovens tunnels achieve unlimited variation of temperature profiles. To eliminate static, the Breeze and Solano feature an air ionizer in the cool-down zone. Microprocessors in each oven allow storage for up to 99 different heating programs. DIMA SMT Systems, The Netherlands.
Wave Solder Machine
The WS330 is a compact wave soldering machine targeting small- and mid-size volumes in standard and lead-free technology. With a solder width of up to 330 mm and a universal pallet-transport system, users can work with a variety of PCBs. The machine is equipped with dual-wave technology and can solder THT and SMD components. Using full-convection preheating, spray-fluxing systems and composite-coated parts, the machine requires little maintenance. The VS330 is available with spray or foam fluxer. The spray-fluxing module features an automatic board-detection system. ESSEMTEC, Switzerland
Tape Feeders
Compatible with Siemen’s Siplace C, F, S and H placement machines, SSF tape feeders are available in 12/16-, 24/32-, 44- and 56-mm sizes. Features include forward/reverse buttons to ease tape threading, standard RFID smart feeder tags for setup validation and traceability, a reversible tape-index drive, removable cover tape reservoir window, LED status indication and onboard diagnostic features to facilitate maintenance and adjustment. The feeders also feature drop-in compatibility and have a maximum pocket depth of 17 mm. Hover-Davis Inc., Rochester, N.Y.
Conformal Coatings
Conformal coatings with Parylene diX films can be used as a chemical barrier, electrical insulation or to protect against humidity and corrosion. The coatings are biocompatible and offer a high level of elasticity and transparency, as well as high dielectricity, low dielectric constant and a low dissipation factor. Suitable for PCBs, sensors, piezoceramics, medical electronics, probes and elastomers, the coatings feature high flexibility and mechanical properties at low temperatures with no measurable out-gassing. Kishimoto Sangyo (KISKO) GmbH, Duesseldorf, Germany
