Kester to Offer Lead-free Wave Soldering, Rework Training

DES PLAINES, Ill. — Kester will host a Kester University course on RoHS/Lead-free training on August 25–26, 2005, at the Des Plaines, Ill. facility. Together with lead-free wave solder and rework process assembly practical demonstrations, attendees will leave with the knowledge required to transition to lead-free while ensuring their products' reliability.
On August 25th, attendees will receive classroom instruction on alloy selection for wave soldering; board and component compatibility; bottom-side SMD with lead-free; understanding the flux selection process; solder contact time and conveyor speed interplay; troubleshooting the lead-free wave soldering process; and chemical and physical impact of the flux in the wave solder process. Classroom instruction will continue until 5:00 p.m., focusing on inspection; equipment requirements; optimizing flux performance; lead-free thru-hole reliability; solderability of component and board finishes; preventing and reducing defects; reworking lead-free assemblies; and flux types, including no-clean, water soluble and VOC-free. The second session on August 26th provides attendees with a hands-on application session for lead-free SMT wave process implementation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their boards/application for a lead-free solution.
The course fee for August 25th is $395, and includes a full-day educational course, lead-free assembly technical manual, Lead-Free Connection Newsletter, networking opportunities, lunch, beverages, and training certificate. Additionally, the fee for August 26th is $200, and includes a half-day hands-on training within the Des Plaines Applications Laboratory.
