Fabrinet Receives ISO/TS 16949:2002 Certification
April 11, 2005 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
SAN FRANCISCO — Fabrinet has obtained ISO/TS 16949:2002 International Automotive Quality Management System certification for their new Pinehurst facility, located in the Bangkok, Thailand metropolitan area. The Pinehurst factory joins Fabrinet's Chokchai, Thailand manufacturing campus, which received ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification in 2003. TUV Rheinland, an independent testing and assessment services company, certified both factory sites.
ISO/TS 16949:2002, an ISO technical specification, aligns existing American (QS-9000), German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry to eliminate the need for multiple certifications to satisfy multiple customer requirements. Along with ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS 16949:2002 specifies the quality system requirements for the design/development, production, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. The certification was developed by The International Automotive Task Force (IATF), in conjunction with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
"The automotive industry has been a focus for Fabrinet, as our background in optics and complex mechanical manufacturing and supply chain enables us to manufacture and support some of the newer and more complex automotive industry applications," says Tom Mitchell, Fabrinet's president and CEO. "Thailand is a center for automotive manufacturing. As more companies look to outsource manufacturing and seek cost efficiencies in low-cost geographies, we expect to play an even greater role in the automotive supply market."
