iNEMI to Reveal Roadmap at APEX
February 14, 2005 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
HERNDON, Va. — The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) will premiere findings of its 2004 roadmap at the APEX/IPC Printed Circuits Expo/Designers Summit, to be held February 22-24, in Anaheim, Calif. Several gap analysis meetings also are planned at that time to discuss roadmap findings and prioritize industry needs in the areas of system-in-package (SiP), board assembly and substrates, environmentally friendly electronics and product lifecycle information management. The updated iNEMI roadmap features 26 chapters, covering seven product divisions and 19 technology, infrastructure and business practice areas. Chapters on SiP, medical products, netcom products (networking, datacom and telecom) and sensors have been added. The roadmap tackles the shifts in each technology, infrastructure and business practice, as well as related technology gaps and business requirements. Jim McElroy, executive director and CEO of iNEMI, will discuss roadmap findings in a keynote address on Thursday, February 24, at 8:00 a.m. "Globalization demands that we think beyond continental boundaries as we consider future technology deployment and research needs," McElroy says. "It's important that we focus globally as we identify the gaps that could potentially impede progress of the electronics manufacturing industry worldwide."The iNEMI roadmap compares technology trends and identifies gaps and "showstoppers," or potential threats to industry advancement. Gap-analysis meetings engage discussions among individuals from different segments of the industry to develop action plans to address industry needs. Four iNEMI technology integration groups (TIGs) will hold gap meetings at APEX on: board assembly and substrates, environmentally conscious electronics, product lifecycle information management (PLIM), and SiP. iNEMI also has scheduled additional meetings at APEX. All iNEMI meetings are open to non-members, and the APEX forums are open to conference attendees. For a complete APEX schedule, visit nemi.org/webdownload/calendar/iNEMI_APEX05_public.pdf. Beginning March 1, 2005, the 2004 iNEMI Roadmap will be available on CD-ROM, and will be available for purchase ($250 for non-members) online at www.nemi.org/cms.roadmapping/2004roadmaporder.html. A 53-page Executive Summary of the roadmap also will be available for $50.
